See that nurse caring for a patient in a TENT in a parking lot? That's me. The photograph is from a story in the Los Angeles Times when I was on an ER contract in South L.A. I gained a lot of valuable experience traveling from ER to ER throughout the U.S. I learned that Healthcare is in trouble, which is likely not news to anyone at this point. However, I found that too often when patients were failed by the system, they blamed clinicians. And when clinicians were failed by the system (think understaffing, under-resourcing, and boarding for days), they in turn tended to blame the patient population.
That's what I'm in this to change. I want to write the battle plan, to wage war on lack of understanding in health care. I believe if we educate ourselves fully, instead of settling for the headlines and the echo chambers, maybe we can turn this thing around. Or at least navigate it competently, leading to better health outcomes for our own lives and those of our families. It's time to move forward together.
